James Pigot (1769 - 1843) was a British publisher, mostly known for his maps and directories. He was born in Macclesfield. In 1811 James Pigot started publishing trade directories for Manchester. In 1814 he began publishing The Commercial Directory which soon expanded to other cities, including London in 1823. He also produced detailed and often decorative maps, including maps of London. He brought his son into his company J. Pigot & Co., but his son died in 1840. An apprentice engraver Isaac Slater later became a partner in the business, and the firm became Pigot & Slater. The company produced directories and maps until 1892.
